I hope your summer is lingering…I hope that the days are long and that it still feels like Aug. 10 is far, far away. For us in the office, August 10 is peering just ahead, up around the corner! But that’s OK, we will be enjoying our time off when the office is closed June 26-July 24.
We do have some back-to-school news for you. Our FHMS “Meet your Teacher” will be held Aug. 7, 1-3 PM. This is when we open our doors and parents and students are welcome to come in, look around, find your classrooms, and get re-acquainted with us. We will also be selling PE uniforms, taking money for cafeteria accounts, etc. I hope you can make it!
Our first day of school is Aug. 10, and it is an early release day. We will dismiss at 11:45.
Our “Back to School” event will take place Aug. 20, 6-8 PM. This is when parents are invited to come and see what the students see when they go to school each day. parents will sequence through a version of the student’s schedule and will be able to hear a presentation from each teacher.
We added two elective classes that may still have openings! Eight Grade Boys Weight Training and Choir. The choir is open to all students and is a full year course. Boys weight training is only open to 8th grade boys. These courses give us even more options in our elective class opportunities for students. If you would like to save a spot, call Mrs. Gomez as soon as possible: 664-5420.
I have included the “welcome back” letter that will go out to students when your schedules are mailed in August. Please click on the link below. Have a great REST of your summer!

I know, I know…You’re thinking, “Summer vacation just started, Mr. B! Why are you even mentioning back to school?!” Although summer break began for students on June 1, Mrs. Gomez and I are right here at FHMS working on plans for another great year! So, you go on ahead and enjoy your summer break–we’ll be busy thinking about back to school time. However, those of you who just love to make advanced plans, here’s the summer and back-to-school schedule:
June 25-July 24: FHMS office closed
July 27: FHMS office opens, 8-3.
August 3: Teachers report
August 7, 1-3 PM: Meet Your Teacher–the school will be open so parents and students can find their way around, meet the staff, and get comfortable.
August 10: The First Day of school! Early release at 11:45
August 20: Picture Day.
We now return you to your summer vacation, already in progress…
See you in August!

Well, everyone has been counting down the days for a few weeks now, and it’s almost over. Another school year is about to close, and I think everyone is ready for it. Mr. B has met with all of the eight graders to go over the details for promotion (see the promotion meeting notes on the link below). We held the “Platinum Feather” awards assembly on Tuesday, and it was an exciting event. There were 197 students eligible for the Platinum Feather! Wow! That means 197 students had all Cs or better, had no discipline referrals, and had no unexcused absences or tardies. That’s really cool. It was a tremendous success, and we’ll do it again next year.
The end of the year brings laughter and tears. We’re proud and happy for our students, but sad to see some students and teachers leave FHMS. However, we look forward to August for that great “back-to-school” feeling of newness and a fresh start.
Promotion will take place on May 28, 7:00 PM. The doors open at 6:30.
The last day of school is May 29, and dismissal is at 11:45. Have a great summer!

This week, Mr. Brennan will send out a letter to parents giving full details about the end of the year and eighth grade promotion. For now, here are some key facts to keep in mind:
1. In order to participate in the promotion ceremony, a student must pass all four of his/her core subject areas.
2. The ceremony will take place on May 28, 7:00 PM. Students must arrive at 6:30 PM.
3. Students will rehearse the ceremony on May 28 in the afternoon.
4. In the week prior to the promotion, Mr. Brennan will meet with all eighth grade homerooms to review the dress code, schedule of events, etc. Generally speaking, the dress code calls for “Sunday best” attire. Shirts, slacks, ties, dress shoes for the boys, and dresses or skirt outfits for the girsl
5. After promotion, all FHMS eighth graders are invited to a dance hosted by parent volunteers, from 8-10 PM. This dance is open to ANY FHMS eighth grader (promoting or not). There are no guests allowed–only currently enrolled FHMS eighth graders are allowed to attend–no exceptions.
6. FHUSD superintendent, Dr. Bill Myhr has confirmed with Mr. Brennan that eighth graders are excused from school on May 29!
Have a great May!

FHMS Hosted the MVAL Spring Season Tournament on May 1 and the Falcons came away with three champions! The sixth grade boys baseball team dominated Phoenix Country Day School in their championship game. The seventh/eighth grade team defeated Greenway in their final game. And our seventh/eight grade girls basketball team beat Phoenix Country Day in a nail-biter that came down to two clutch free throws by Hannah Langworthy to seal the vicotry. In the fifth/sixth grade girls game, Phoenix Country Day defeated Hillcrest for the title.
The day’s action began at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 5:00. In addition to our championship teams, our FHMS facilties proved to be tops in the game as host site.
Way to go Falcons!
